About Culture & Language Program
The Tribal Education Department’s Culture and Language Program’s primary focus is to revitalize the Akimel O’otham and Pee Posh languages while reinforcing cultural values and knowledge. This is accomplished through supporting Culture and Language Teachers in the schools within the Gila River Indian Community and also by providing services to Community Departments/Programs, Community Members and students directly. The Culture and Language Program consults on a regular basis with Community Elders and Members knowledgeable in the Community’s cultures and languages. All efforts and activities done by the Culture Program will be to benefit the Gila River Indian Community by reinvigorating the cultures and languages of both the Akimel O’otham and Pee Posh.
